I've always been torn between secretly liking traditions and staying true to my darkly whimsical world view. I've also felt the weight of tradition pressing down, trying to crush it.
However, there are several ways to claim small, meaningful details, and the most traditional of them all is lace.

Even in white, lace comes in many modern and unique motifs, that from a distance reads as classic. What lives in the pattern is entirely up to you.
A seamstress can replace a panel in a sleeve, add an inset, or stitch a hidden detail into a hem. You could wrap a themed laced detail around your bouquet, or let it live quietly in a veil.
Most people will just see lace. A few will see your lace.
It does take some hunting to find the right motif, but that's true of anything worth having. Alternative motifs are easier to find in trims and appliqués rather than yardage. You can check Mood Fabrics or LaceUSA, and better yet seek out smaller specialty sellers and don't overlook your local alteration shop. They often know sources you won't find online.
Once you find it, the rest is between you and whoever gets close enough to look. A subtle twist to hide your style in plain, traditional sight.
P.S. I do make a couple of appliqué designs by request.
