About This Piece

While dodging and ducking through my first big cicada emergence, I was captivated by their strikingly vibrant red eyes. It reminded me of a trend that originated in the late 1800s: gilded insects.

Inspired by the Victorians who adorned live insects with jewels and chains, I present my interpretation. Picture a vintage cicada, dipped in bronze, delicately perched on a long branch, as if unearthed from a forgotten box to grace tresses in a new era.

This hand-carved hardwood hair stick holds securely yet feels lightweight - perfect for everything from messy buns to elegant updos. And rest assured, no cicadas were harmed (or even touched) in the making of this piece. 🙂

LIMITED EDITION DETAILS

WHY IS THIS LIMITED?

Because quality matters, and I want every cicada to be as perfect as the first.

Each one is cast from the original unfired clay sculpture I hand-sculpted. Soft clay wasn't meant to last forever and eventually it will reach the end of its life. When that happens, the cicadas will gracefully retire forever.

The final cicada from each run will also receive a piece of that run's retired mold, making it a truly unique collector's item.
