About This Piece

Most would assume inspiration came from a certain psychological thriller with its infamous moth imagery, but the idea actually sparked during a podcast where I was a guest alongside the costume designer of a lavish gothic ghost story. As fellow film artisans, we ended up talking about the hidden moth and butterfly motifs woven into everything, even the wallpaper of that crumbling mansion. That small detail lingered with me and eventually became the seed for this design.

This hairpin set blends that gothic elegance with a touch of dark whimsy. Moths carry so many layers of meaning: transformation, shadow and light, even whispers of the otherworldly when it comes to the death's head moth. I love that the symbolism can be powerful yet personal, leaving space for each wearer to bring their own meaning. Whether it's the mystery, the symbolism, or simply the design itself, this nocturnal creature hairpin is a little piece of wearable storytelling.
