About This Piece

The Mordrake set is where this all started. My second hairpin design, the first to carry my studio’s signature look, and the one that’s been copied more times than I can count. This set pairs a multi-textured leather skull slide with what has become the Bone of Yore: a wood and resin hand-whittled hair stick.

The leather skull is stained in layers to look like ancient bone, aged and weathered as if unearthed after centuries, while its pyrography and embossed details catch the light. The bone stick top is cast in resin from my original sculpture, married to hand-carved hardwood. Its perfectly imperfect texture and weathered coloring match the leather skull. The whole set is light enough to forget you're wearing it, but striking enough that others won't.

Named as a playful twist on the legend of Edward Mordrake, though unlike the haunting story, this skull on the back of your head won't whisper dark secrets or cause trouble. It just adds a little memento mori allure.
